What is muscle mass?

It is the size measured in volume of the tissue that corresponds to the muscle. It is composed of three types of mass, lean mass, body fat and water.

If you did not know, there are several types of muscles, to be specific are three types, the smooth muscle that is in the viscera the skeletal muscle that is the muscle as we know it (is the one that allows us to move) and the heart muscle that It is part of the heart.

If you stimulate enough muscle, this may respond by increasing its mass , which causes him more strength and endurance. This process is known as muscle hypertrophy, which in short, is muscle growth due to exercise.

If you want to increase your muscle mass need to maintain a balanced diet and most importantly, a routine physical exercises , depending on which part you want to develop. If you want to increase the strength, do exercises with weights but if you want to increase the resistance works the greater number of repetitions in your exercises.

As I mentioned, in addition to the exercises you must have a balanced diet, you must eat foods rich in nutrients such as carbohydrates that are a source of energy for our body. If you want to have a heavy exercise routine you should consume foods that give you energy to perform it. An example of exercises is lifting weights that help you increase your muscle.

Speaking of the opposite of muscle hypertrophy is sarcopenia, this is a condition characterized by decrease muscle mass and takes you to have weakness and decreased strength, characteristics of aging. This can occur in thin elderly and in patients with cancer.
